Working With a CFP® Professional

When choosing a financial advisor, consider the benefits of working with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) professional. This certification is awarded by the CFP® Board to individuals who meet specific educational, testing and ethical standards.

CFP® certification begins with a college-level coursework that covers a variety of topics, including investments, estate planning, insurance, taxes planning, wealth transfer, risk management, employee benefits and retirement planning. Individuals pursuing certification must also pass a comprehensive exam that applies their financial knowledge to real-life situations. This test is considered to be one of the most difficult in the industry, with only a 55-60% pass rate. In addition to training, CFP® professionals must adhere to a strict code of ethics, upholding principles of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and diligence. Prior to receiving their certification, CFP® professionals must also apply their knowledge by completing several thousand hours of professional experience.
